About us

History:
Started in the year of 1964 with the vision of Youth Empowerment through Vocational Education, Thoothukudi Government Industrial Training Institute has trained ITI Graduates in different disciplines for the past 58 years by equipping them with suitable skills for industrial employment.. This Institute was started under the Third Five Year Plan. Catering to Industrial needs at Thoothukudi Govt. ITI are committed in training ITI graduates well suited to Industrial needs. Training starts with Discipline, Punctuality, Industrial Safety and Skill in the relevant trades. Every day begins with the assembly. The Institute functions in two shifts in order to accustom trainees to the Industry pattern and as well as to effectively use the Tools and Equipments available in the Institute.
Campus Environment:
Campus Environment Consisting of 12.5 acres of land, Government ITI Thoothukudi is situated in the vicinity of a host of Industries such as Port Trust, Thermal Power Station, SIPCOT, SPIC, Venus Home Appliances Pvt Ltd, Dharangadhara Chemical Works etc. In a calm and screening atmosphere the trainees get a feel of the Industry. The Campus consists of the Administrative Block which houses the Office in the ground Floor and class rooms in the First Floor
The main workshop Fitter, Electrician, Turner, Machinist and Welder Trades. IMCP and MMCP trades come under a Separate workshop adjacent to the main workshop. Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician and Draughtsman Mechanic trades are housed in a separate building. Cleanliness within the workshop and around the campus is maintained. Awareness programs regarding saving of Power, water and other natural resources are conducted.
In order to make the Trainees physically fit, trainees are encouraged to involve in sports activities. A dedicated Physical Training Officer takes care of the discipline and sports activities of the Institute. Inter ITI sports are conducted to inculcate leadership qualities and team work. Trainees who excel participate in regional and State level sports meet. Separate courts are available for Football, Badminton and Volley Ball.
The NSS unit in the Institute encourages trainees to involve in the task of national service apart from their day to day training activities. The first duty of the Trainees should be, not to treat their period of Training as one of the opportunities for ingraining vocational training alone, but also prepare themselves for the services essential to the society. NSS forms a living contact with the community where the institution is located so that the life of the villagers might be raised to a higher material and moral level. Blood Donation Camps, Eye Camps, Yoga and other cultural activities are conducted on behalf by the NSS.

2.SKILLS STRENGTHENING FOR INDUSTRIAL VALUE ENHANCEMENT (STRIVE)
Skills Strengthening for Industrial Value Enhancement (STRIVE) is a new World Bank funded project that has been approved by Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) in November 2016 for a total cost of Rs. 2200 crore.The project falls under the Programme for Results based category of World Bank that ensures outcome based funding. The project aims at creating awareness through industry clusters/ geographical chambers that would address the challenge of involvement of micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs). The Project would also aim at integrating and enhancing delivery quality of ITIs. In order to ensure achievement of outcome these ITI would be competitively selected for upgradation under the scheme.
Committee for Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved STRIVE and the loan agreement between Government of India & World Bank has been signed on 19.12.2017.The project management consultancy has been on-boarded. The operations manual has been prepared in consultation with World Bank and has been approved by National Steering Committee meeting chaired by Secretary, MSDE on 3rd January’2019. Implementation of project has been started and workshops with states and industries clusters are planned.

ADMISSION DETAILS
Admission process commences after the announcement of SSLC results in May every year with the Web site Address. www.skilltraining.tn.gov.in Online Application from select the any Government Industrial Training Institute throughout the state.
Cost of application is Rs.50/- (Rupees Fifty only) online and offline Payment mode. Candidates may apply for all the trades with One application form subject to his/her educational Qualification.
Admission is conducted on the basis of Total marks obtained in 10th Std. in case of all trades exempt Welder and Sheet metal worker trades, on the basis of marks got in 8th Std.
Selection is also subject to Communal Rotation as per existing rules and relevant number of seats allotted to Women, Ex-service man, Differently Abled , Orphans, Sportsman etc.
